Why choose this over a free activity

- No printing — works on a laptop, tablet or classroom screen
License and file format
- One .pptx file; upload it to Google Drive to open it in Google Slides
- One teacher or one household. Use it with your own students, this year and next

Why get the bundle
The problem
Is 'quickly' describing the runner or the running?
Adjectives and adverbs both add detail, so the two blur together. Many words end in -ly, but not all of them, and some adjectives do too.
Trusting the -ly ending
Children label 'friendly' an adverb because it ends in -ly. It describes a noun, so it is an adjective.
Not asking what it describes
The sorting question is whether the word tells about a thing or about an action. Without it, kids just guess.
Words that look alike
'Fast' and 'hard' can be both, depending on the sentence. Third graders need practice seeing the job a word does.
Words are sorted one by one into adjective or adverb, with the question 'does it describe a thing or an action?' built into the practice.
What’s inside
30 questions, one per slide.
Students type straight into the box — no printing, no cutting.

Questions
Before you buy.
Why do the sorts include words like 'happy' and 'purple'?
They are plain adjectives, mixed in so children can't just hunt for -ly. The contrast is what teaches the difference.
Is this for sentences or single words?
Single words in the sorting cards and the matching sentence work in the companion pages, so children move from naming a word to using it.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PowerPoint file you can open in Google Slides.
Can I share it with my class?
Yes — one teacher can use it with their own students, this year and next. Sharing the file with other teachers needs a separate license.
Do I need Google Slides?
No. The file is a PowerPoint (.pptx). It opens in PowerPoint, and in Google Slides once you upload it to Google Drive.
