Why get the bundle
- Seeing missing numbers in cards, games and color-by-code keeps children thinking about number order, not only chanting the next word.
The problem
What comes after 19?
Children can recite counting but still stumble when asked for the number before or after, or the one in the middle.
Mixing up before and after
Before and after are easy to flip. A child may say 12 comes before 13, but when asked what comes before 12 they say 13.
Reciting from the beginning
A child can chant 1 to 20 yet stall when asked what comes after 12. They have learned the song, not how to start in the middle.
Between needs two neighbors
To find the number between 11 and 13, children must hold both ends in mind. Many just repeat one of them.
Sequences with a single gap show before, after and between. Children fill in the missing number, so they use the counting line they know in both directions.

Who it’s for
Built for the kitchen table and the classroom.
Parents & homeschool
Use a number path or a line of cards on the floor. Cover a number and ask what is hiding. Take turns being the one who hides it.
Teachers
Works for a quick number-sense check. Mix before, after and between to see who relies on reciting from one.
Kindergarten & first grade
Early counters who can say the sequence but cannot pick out a missing number need exactly this practice.

Questions
Before you buy.
Does this go backward as well as forward?
Yes. Missing numbers appear in different positions, so children think about what comes before as well as after.
Which numbers does it use?
Short runs of numbers in the teens, such as 11, 12, 13. Children use the counting they know and fill in the one that is hiding.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PDF with 14 pages. No account needed.
Can I print it more than once?
Yes. One teacher or one household can print unlimited copies for their own students, this year and next.
Will it print in color?
The pages are designed to print in black and white, so they print clean on any home or school printer and do not eat a cartridge.
