Why get the bundle
- Blends need repeat in several forms. The bundle adds games, cards and an assessment, and the L, R and S bundles go deeper on each family.
The problem
Two sounds, one breath: 'blend' read as 'buh-lend'
A consonant blend keeps both sounds, so children must say them quickly together. Many slow down, insert a vowel, or drop one sound.
Inserted vowels
Children say 'buh-lack' for black. The extra vowel makes a two-syllable word and slows reading.
Dropped sounds
Blend becomes 'bend' and brake becomes 'bake'. One sound of the blend goes missing, and a new real word appears.
Three families at once
L, R and S blends all look alike on the page. Children must notice which letter pair they have before blending.
Words with L, R and S blends are practiced together. Children read each word whole and check that both sounds are there, not an extra vowel in between.

RTI & intervention

Questions
Before you buy.
What's a consonant blend?
Two or three consonants at the start of a word where each keeps its own sound, as in blend, brake and scarf.
Is a blend the same as a digraph?
No. In a blend you hear both letters. In a digraph, like sh, two letters make one new sound.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PowerPoint file you can open in Google Slides.
Can I share it with my class?
Yes — one teacher can use it with their own students, this year and next. Sharing the file with other teachers needs a separate license.
Do I need Google Slides?
No. The file is a PowerPoint (.pptx). It opens in PowerPoint, and in Google Slides once you upload it to Google Drive.
