Why get the bundle
- L blends settle with repeat. The bundle gives you cards, games and an assessment so children read the same blends in many forms.
The problem
Black comes out as 'buh-lack': the vowel that isn't there
L blends are hard because /l/ sits close to the vowel. Children add a sound after the first letter, or leave out the l.
Extra vowel
Beginners say 'buh-lack' for black, or 'guh-lass' for glass. The extra sound turns one syllable into two.
Dropped l
'Blend' becomes 'bend' and 'black' becomes 'back'. Both are real words, so the slip is easy to miss.
L looks like I
Lowercase l is a tall line. In words like blade and blend, it can look like a stray stick.
Only L blends appear: bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl. Children read words like blade, blend and black with the second sound held in place.
What’s inside
30 questions, one per slide.
Students type straight into the box — no printing, no cutting.

Questions
Before you buy.
Which L blends are included?

My child reads 'blend' as 'bend'. What should I do?
Cover the b and say /l/, then add the b back with a slide. Practice the pair slowly before reading the whole word.
