Children often learn capitals and lowercase as two separate sets. They need to see they are one letter in two shapes.

A and a share almost nothing visually. Children meet them as different symbols before they learn they are the same.
Look-alikes
c, o, s, v, w, x and z look nearly the same in both cases. Children have to rely on size, not shape.
Name, not size
