The problem
The sentence that starts small and ends up wandering
Kindergartners and first graders write what they say. A capital at the front is a visual rule they have to remember on top of forming each letter.
Lowercase first letters
'the dog ran to the park' gets written with no capital. The sentence is complete, but the start is missing.
Capitals in the middle
Once kids notice capitals, some sprinkle them through the sentence, writing 'The Dog ran.'
Which word is first?
Finding the first word and checking its letter takes a pause. Many children rush straight to the ending.
Pages show a sentence with a lowercase start and ask which word needs the capital, so children learn to check the first word every time.
What’s inside
44 pages across 4 resources.
Within a bundle, the capital-start habit shows up in several formats, so it carries into the child's own writing, not just the page.

Morning work, centers, small groups, the kitchen table. Same format every day, so the routine sticks.
US Letter 8.5 × 11 · PDFWho it’s for
Built for the kitchen table and the classroom.
Parents & homeschool
Make it a habit before they write a sentence: point to the first word and ask, 'Is it big?'
Teachers
A quick K-1 daily-writing routine. Kids check each other's first letters during partner work.
Handwriting practice
Pairs well with letter formation work, because children also practice writing the capital as they correct it.

Questions
Before you buy.
Does the child have to write the capital?
Cards let children choose the right answer. The same sentences can then be copied or rewritten, depending on the format.
Is this too easy for first grade?
It suits late kindergarten and early first grade, when capitals at the start are still inconsistent. Older writers can skip ahead.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. 4 PDFs with 44 pages. No account needed.
Can I print it more than once?
Yes. One teacher or one household can print unlimited copies for their own students, this year and next.
Will it print in color?
The pages are designed to print in black and white, so they print clean on any home or school printer and do not eat a cartridge.
