Why get the bundle
- A bundle lets children sort, play and check, so the common-versus-proper idea is solid before capitals come in.
The problem
Is 'river' a name or just a thing?
First and second graders know nouns name things, but not that some names are special. The line between a general and a specific noun is subtle.
Same thing, two levels
'City' is general. 'Chicago' is a particular city. Children see both as just a place.
Capital letter shortcuts
Kids check for a capital first, so when a word is typed in lowercase they can't tell.
Titles and days
Words like Monday, Mrs. Lee and Lake Erie are proper nouns. Children don't expect days of the week to count.
Words come one at a time with 'common' or 'proper' choices, so children practice asking 'is it one particular one, with its own name?'

Questions
Before you buy.
Is this the same as capitalizing proper nouns?
No. This one sorts the nouns. The capital-proper-nouns topic is about writing the capital letter.
Do kids see example words?
Yes. Sample words include river, city and boy, with common as an answer, and contrasting proper choices.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PDF with 14 pages. No account needed.
Can I print it more than once?
Yes. One teacher or one household can print unlimited copies for their own students, this year and next.
Will it print in color?
The pages are designed to print in black and white, so they print clean on any home or school printer and do not eat a cartridge.
