Why get the bundle
- A bundle puts compound words on task cards, clip cards, flash cards and an assessment, so building and spotting them is practiced from every side.
The problem
Sun plus shine: the day a word turns out to be two words
First graders read compound words as one long blob. Seeing the two small words inside is a decoding trick and a spelling trick at once.
Reading it as one lump
'Football' looks like a long word. Splitting it into foot and ball makes it readable and shows what it means.
Spelling by sound
'Rainbow' becomes 'ranebo' when a child spells it by ear. Knowing the two parts keeps both spellings intact.
Mix-ups in the middle
When picking the answer for 'sun + shine,' children choose a word that shares one piece. It takes a full read to be sure.
Each card shows two small words joined with a plus sign and asks for the new word, so children build compounds and see both halves.
What’s inside
30 questions, one per slide.
Students type straight into the box — no printing, no cutting.

Spelling support
Spotting the two parts helps children who spell long words by sound alone.

Questions
Before you buy.
Do kids need to read long words?
The pieces are short, familiar words, so the challenge is combining them, not decoding long text.
Is there an answer key?
Yes. The task cards, assessment and the Google Slides deck all come with answers, so checking is quick.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PowerPoint file you can open in Google Slides.
Can I share it with my class?
Yes — one teacher can use it with their own students, this year and next. Sharing the file with other teachers needs a separate license.
Do I need Google Slides?
No. The file is a PowerPoint (.pptx). It opens in PowerPoint, and in Google Slides once you upload it to Google Drive.
