- 30 question slides, one question per slide
- A type-in answer box on every question
- A title slide and an answer key slide at the end
- One .pptx file — opens in Google Slides and PowerPoint
Why choose this over a free activity
- Distractors are real contractions, so kids must check the pair
- Includes the odd one, won't, that kids cannot sound out
- No printing — works on a laptop, tablet or classroom screen
License and file format
- One .pptx file; upload it to Google Drive to open it in Google Slides
- One teacher or one household. Use it with your own students, this year and next
- Sharing the file itself needs a separate license
- Digital download — nothing ships
How do I get the files?
- The download link is on the order page the moment you pay, and in your inbox at the same time
- Re-download from that link any time — no account needed
- Wrong or broken file? Email support@pencillane.com and we fix it or refund you
Why get the bundle
- A bundle lets children meet each contraction as cards, clips and an assessment, which makes the spelling stick.
The problem
Two words, one apostrophe, one missing letter
Children say 'can't' every day but don't know what the apostrophe replaces. Writing it correctly means seeing the letters that vanish.
Apostrophe in the wrong place
Kids write 'ca'nt' or 'do'nt.' The mark goes where the letters were removed, not between the two words.
Won't is odd
'Will not' becomes 'won't,' which shares few letters. It needs to be memorized.
Confusing similar forms
'We'd,' 'she'd' and 'aren't' look alike. Children pick a contraction that is close but wrong.
Each card gives two words, such as 'do not,' and the child picks the contraction, so the link between the pair and the short form becomes automatic.
What’s inside
30 questions, one per slide.
Students type straight into the box — no printing, no cutting.

Who it’s for
Built for the kitchen table and the classroom.
Parents & homeschool
Say the pair aloud, then the contraction. Ask what letters went missing. Kids see the apostrophe as a stand-in.
Teachers
A 1st-2nd grade conventions station. Handy before editing, because contractions show up in all writing.
Spelling work
Contractions are among the most common apostrophe errors, so this is a high-use skill for young writers.

Questions
Before you buy.
Which contractions are included?
Common ones, including can't, don't and won't, with other pairs offered as choices.
Does it cover possessive apostrophes?
No. Possession is a separate topic. This one is only about contractions.
