Why get the bundle
- Ck is a spelling pattern, so repeat matters. The bundle adds games and an assessment to check reading and spelling.
The problem
Thick, muck, stick: why does the k need a c in front?
Ck says /k/ and almost always appears at the end of a short-vowel word. Children write 'thik' or 'stik' because they hear one sound.
Spelling with k only
Children hear /k/ and write k. Ck at the end of short vowel words is a spelling rule they haven't learned.
Reading ck as c then k
A child reads the letters as two sounds, /k/ /k/. Ck is one sound.
Never at the start
Ck can't begin a word. It's a back-of-the-word pattern, and children try to use it at the front.
Only ck words are included, such as thick, muck and stick, so children see ck at the end of a short-vowel word again and again.

Questions
Before you buy.
When do we use ck?
Right after a short vowel at the end of a word, like duck and stick. It's a spelling pattern that children learn by seeing it often.
Is ck the same as k?
It makes the same sound, /k/. The two letters together show that the vowel before it is short.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PDF with 13 pages. No account needed.
Can I print it more than once?
Yes. One teacher or one household can print unlimited copies for their own students, this year and next.
Will it print in color?
The pages are designed to print in black and white, so they print clean on any home or school printer and do not eat a cartridge.
