Why get the bundle
- Aw sticks with repeat. The bundle includes more formats, and the au product pairs well for spelling.
The problem
Jaw, awful, strawberry: aw ends words that au can't
Aw says /aw/ and often sits at the end of a word. Children who know au may think 'jau' is right.
Aw or au?
English rarely ends a word with au, so jaw, saw and paw all take aw. Children spell by ear and guess.
Aw or ow?
Saw and sow, law and low. The letters look similar and the sounds differ.
Longer words
In 'strawberry', aw sits in the middle of three syllables. Children can miss it.
Only aw words appear: jaw, awful, strawberry and more. Children see aw at the front, middle and end, and learn it says /aw/.

Questions
Before you buy.
Why is aw at the end of words?
English words rarely end in au, so aw takes the end. Children learn it by seeing it often.
Does aw ever say anything else?
Not in these words. Aw is a reliable pattern, which makes it good for early practice.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PDF with 10 pages. No account needed.
Can I print it more than once?
Yes. One teacher or one household can print unlimited copies for their own students, this year and next.
Will it print in color?
The pages are designed to print in black and white, so they print clean on any home or school printer and do not eat a cartridge.
