Boy, royalty, soybean: oy ends words that oi can't
Oy says /oi/ and is used at the end of a syllable. Children who know oi may write 'boi'.

Both say /oi/. Words rarely end in oi, so oy covers boy, toy and joy.

A child says /o/ /y/ for boy. Oy is one sound.
