Why get the bundle
- Doubles make a good base for near-doubles and make-ten. The bundle lets children use the same facts in several strategies.
The problem
7 + 7 takes a count, and 8 + 8 another
Doubles are the easiest hard facts. They are easy to remember once learned, but many children count them out every time.
Counting out each double
A child solves 7 + 7 by counting 7 and then 7 more. Knowing the double makes it instant.
Not noticing the two matching numbers
4 + 4 and 5 + 5 look like any other sums. Children who spot two of the same can use a double.
Doubles and near doubles
6 + 6 is 12 and 6 + 7 is 13. A child who guesses can land one off.
Cards and a poster show each double from 1 + 1 to 10 + 10. Children learn the pairs as a set and say the fact aloud.
