- Sound work grows with variety. Games, task cards and an assessment help you see which endings a child hears and which still blur.
The problem
Cash ends like ... lush? Ears are listening to the wrong end
Children usually hear the beginning of words first. Matching words by their last sound means shifting attention to the end of the word.
Beginning bias
Asked what ends like 'pop', a child often chooses a word that starts with p. The first sound is louder.
Spelling doesn't help
Cash ends like lush because both end in /sh/. Letters differ, so the page can't be solved by looking for a match.
Holding the word
The child holds one word in mind and compares its end to others. That's a lot for working memory.
Prompts like 'cash ends like ___' give three words. Children say them aloud and listen to the end, building the awareness that helps with reading and spelling.
What’s inside
30 questions, one per slide.
Students type straight into the box — no printing, no cutting.

Questions
Before you buy.
Does my child need to read the words?
No. Read them aloud. This is a listening task that comes before reading and spelling.
Why include words that rhyme?
Rhyming words also end the same, so rhyme is a helpful step. Ending sounds go beyond rhyme to words like cash and lush.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PowerPoint file you can open in Google Slides.
Can I share it with my class?
Yes — one teacher can use it with their own students, this year and next. Sharing the file with other teachers needs a separate license.
Do I need Google Slides?
No. The file is a PowerPoint (.pptx). It opens in PowerPoint, and in Google Slides once you upload it to Google Drive.
