Why get the bundle
- Ending sounds need practice from many angles. The bundle adds cards, games and a check so you can see which endings a child still misses.
The problem
Luck ends in /k/, but she writes 'lu' and stops
Children often drop the last sound when they spell. The ending is hard to hear, and some endings take two letters, like ck and sh.
Dropped final sounds
A child who writes 'hen' as 'he' hasn't lost the ability to read. They simply didn't hear the /n/ at the end.
Two-letter endings
Luck ends with ck, and rash ends with sh. Children expect one letter per sound and miss that two letters make one.
Last sound, not last letter
Words like 'luck' have four letters but three sounds. Children must tell sounds from letters.
Each prompt is a short word and asks for its final sound as a letter or digraph. Choices include ck and sh, so children match sounds, not just letters.

Questions
Before you buy.
Why do some answers have two letters?
Some sounds take two letters. In luck, ck says /k/. Children learn that sounds and letters don't always match one to one.
Is it for reading or spelling?
Both. Hearing the last sound helps children read words and write them with all their parts.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PDF with 15 pages. No account needed.
Can I print it more than once?
Yes. One teacher or one household can print unlimited copies for their own students, this year and next.
Will it print in color?
The pages are designed to print in black and white, so they print clean on any home or school printer and do not eat a cartridge.
