Why get the bundle
- Estimating grows with variety. Cards, bingo and color-by-code give children many sums to round.
The problem
25 + 38 is about 70, not 60
Estimating is rounding first and adding second. Children round only one number, round the wrong way, or add the exact numbers.
Rounding 25 down
25 is halfway between 20 and 30 and rounds up to 30. Children hesitate at the 5.
Rounding only one number
Rounding 38 to 40 and keeping 25 gives 65. Both numbers need rounding.
Adding the exact numbers
Some children add 25 + 38 and call it the estimate. The goal is a quick, near answer.
Each question has three close choices, such as 60, 70 and 80. Children round each number to the nearest ten, add the rounded numbers and pick the match.
What’s inside
