Why get the bundle
- Fact families can be practiced as cards, games and checks, giving children several ways to see the link.
The problem
4 + 3 = 7, but what about 7 - 3?
Fact families show that addition and subtraction use the same three numbers. Children often see them as separate facts.
Four facts from three numbers
Children write 3 + 5 = 8 and stop. They need to see 5 + 3, 8 - 3 and 8 - 5 too.
Subtracting in the wrong order
3 - 8 does not work with small numbers. The biggest number goes first in a subtraction.
Seeing subtraction as new
Children who know 5 + 3 = 8 don't always use it to solve 8 - 3. They start counting down instead.
Each fact belongs to a family of three numbers within 10. Children write or solve all the related sentences, so addition helps with subtraction.
What’s inside
