Why get the bundle
- Fact families show up in worksheets, games and checks, so children see addition and subtraction as one idea in different forms.
The problem
4 + 10 = 14, but where is 14 - 4?
Fact families link addition and subtraction. Past 10, children stop seeing the link and treat each sentence as new.
Mixing up the whole
In 4, 10 and 14, the total is the largest number. Children put 14 in the middle of a subtraction.
Writing three, not four
Many write 4 + 10, 10 + 4 and 14 - 4, and stop. The fourth, 14 - 10, completes the family.
Counting back for subtraction
14 - 4 by counting back is slow. Knowing 4 + 10 = 14 gives the answer at once.
Items show facts from families up to 20, including 10 plus a number. Children use the addition fact to solve subtraction and find all four sentences.
