Why get the bundle
- Letter sounds need many looks. Flash cards for daily drills, games for variety and a check page show you which letters are still unsteady.
The problem
Bed, bell, bus: he hears the /b/ but can't say what letter it is
Connecting a letter to its first sound is the first step toward reading. Children often know the sound or the letter name but can't link them.
Name vs. sound
Ask 'what letter does bed start with?' and a child may say 'bee' or the whole word 'bed'. The task has two parts.
Same sound, different letters
Children who learned b for /b/ are thrown when a word starts with c, k or q. One sound can have several letters.
Listening for just the start
Words come out as one lump of sound. Children must pull off the first piece, which is harder than it seems.
Words with the same first letter are grouped together, so children hear the same sound several times in a row before moving on.
What’s inside

Questions
Before you buy.
Are the words grouped by letter?
Yes. Items repeat the same first letter, like bed, bell and bus, so children hear the sound several times before it changes.
Does my child need to know all the letters?
No. Start with the letters your child knows and add more. The words are simple and familiar.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PowerPoint file you can open in Google Slides.
Can I share it with my class?
Yes — one teacher can use it with their own students, this year and next. Sharing the file with other teachers needs a separate license.
Do I need Google Slides?
No. The file is a PowerPoint (.pptx). It opens in PowerPoint, and in Google Slides once you upload it to Google Drive.
