Why get the bundle
- Cards, games and bingo let children go from fraction to decimal in many different forms.
The problem
15/100 is 0.15, not 0.015 or 1.5
A decimal is a fraction written with place value. Children misplace the point or write too many zeros.
Too many zeros
Because 100 has two zeros, some children write 0.015. Fifteen hundredths goes in the tenths and hundredths places: 0.15.
Where the point goes
1.5 is fifteen tenths. The decimal point sits right after the ones digit. A fraction under one starts with 0.
Reading the denominator
The 100 tells the place value. Children who read it as a number to divide by get confused.
Each fraction has a denominator of 10 or 100, with answer choices that show the usual slips. Children read the denominator as tenths or hundredths and place the digits.
