Why get the bundle
- Comparing becomes automatic through repeated, varied practice. Games, color-by-code and bingo give children many reasons to ask which is greater.
The problem
Is 9 bigger than 12? The 9 looks bigger.
Kindergartners often judge by the digit they can see, not by how many the number stands for. Teens are where this shows up.
One big digit beats two digits
Faced with 9 and 12, some children pick 9 because it is the bigger single digit. A number with a ten in it is greater than any single digit.
Counting up from one
Counting up from 1 to find which comes later works but is slow and often loses track once a child passes ten.
Hearing the question wrong
Greater, more and bigger can all sound alike. Children may circle the one they find easiest, not the one asked for.
Each problem gives two numbers within 20 and asks which is greater. Children choose and say why, using a number line or ten frames when stuck.

Who it’s for
Built for the kitchen table and the classroom.
Parents & homeschool
Lay two number cards on the table with the matching dots or counters. Ask: which pile is bigger? Then check by counting.
Teachers
Use as a center or morning warm-up. Pair it with a number path so children can see which is farther along.
Number-sense groups
Children who count well but cannot compare yet often just need more chances to see numbers side by side.

Questions
Before you buy.
Is this symbols or words?
Neither. Children pick the greater number from two choices. The > and < symbols come in our Comparing Numbers sets.
How is this different from Which Number is Smaller?
Same numbers, opposite question. Doing both stops children from always picking the first or the larger one.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PowerPoint file you can open in Google Slides.
Can I share it with my class?
Yes — one teacher can use it with their own students, this year and next. Sharing the file with other teachers needs a separate license.
Do I need Google Slides?
No. The file is a PowerPoint (.pptx). It opens in PowerPoint, and in Google Slides once you upload it to Google Drive.
