The problem
A is all lines, C is all curves, B is both: can she see it?
Capital letters are built from simple parts. Children who see the parts have a head start on telling letters apart and, later, on writing them.
Letters seen as blobs
Many preschoolers see letters as whole pictures. Splitting them into straight lines and curves is a new way to look.
The 'both' letters
B, D, P, R, J and U mix straight and curved strokes. They're the answers that make children slow down.
Before the pencil
A child who knows a letter has a line and a curve is better prepared to form it. Looking comes before writing.
Each prompt shows one capital and asks whether it is made of lines, curves or both. Capital shapes have clear answers, so children can check their eyes.

Questions
Before you buy.
Is this good for children who can't write yet?
Yes. It's a looking task, not a writing one. Children point or say the answer.
What about letters like A with a slanted line?
A slanted line still counts as a straight line. The question is lines or curves, not vertical or horizontal.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. 5 PDFs with 29 pages. No account needed.
Can I print it more than once?
Yes. One teacher or one household can print unlimited copies for their own students, this year and next.
Will it print in color?
The pages are designed to print in black and white, so they print clean on any home or school printer and do not eat a cartridge.
