The problem
Eleven, twelve, __, fourteen
Teen numbers stop following the pattern children learned up to ten. A gap in the teens asks for real knowledge of order.
Teens do not sound regular
Thirteen and fifteen break the 'ten and' pattern of the number words, so children cannot guess.
Counting from one
To find a missing teen, many children count from 1 each time instead of starting nearby.
Gaps in different spots
When the gap moves from the end to the middle, children need to think both ways, not only count on.
Runs up to 20 show one missing number. Children say the numbers on either side before choosing the one that fits.
What’s inside
19 questions, one per slide.
Students type straight into the box — no printing, no cutting.
Missing Number to 20
