The problem
Three groups of three, but they write 6
Early multiplication is about equal groups. Children who know addition often add the two numbers they see.
Adding the two numbers
3 x 3 becomes 6 when a child adds. Times means groups of.
Which number is the group size
In 3 x 4, is it three groups of four or four groups of three? Both give 12, but children need to know.
Counting every dot
Without skip counting, a 4 x 4 array means counting 16 dots by ones.
Small multiplication facts, such as 2 x 3 and 4 x 4, show equal groups. Children link repeated addition to the times sign.
What’s inside
16 questions, one per slide.
Students type straight into the box — no printing, no cutting.
