Why get the bundle
- Poster and cards together put the same ten pairs in front of children in several ways.
The problem
3 and 7 make 10, and so do 4 and 6
Number bonds are pairs that make a number. Children who know them add and subtract faster.
Counting up each time
In 10 = 3 + ?, a child counts from 3 on fingers. It works but it never becomes recall.
Writing the total in the gap
With 10 = 5 + ?, some children write 10 in the gap, because it is the number they see.
Pairs feel separate
3 and 7 feels unrelated to 2 and 8. Seeing them one up and one down shows the pattern.
Cards show the whole as 10 and one part, asking for the other part. A poster lays the pairs out so the pattern is easy to see.
