Why get the bundle
- Number-line addition pairs well with addition-to-20 and make-ten sets in a bundle, so hopping becomes one strategy among several.
The problem
Start at 4, hop 3, and land on 8
On a number line, children often count the starting point as the first hop. That puts every answer one too far.
Counting the start as a hop
From 4, a child says 4, 5, 6 and lands on 6 instead of 7. The start is where you are, not a step taken.
Counting marks, not spaces
Each hop covers the space between two marks. Children who count tick marks overshoot or undershoot by one.
Where does the answer go?
After hopping, the landing mark is the sum. Some children write the number of hops instead.
Each card shows a number line with a start point and a number of hops. Children place a finger at the start, make the hops and name where they land.

Who it’s for
Built for the kitchen table and the classroom.
Parents & homeschool
Draw a number line in chalk outside and hop on it. Start on 4, take three big steps, and say where you stand.
Teachers
Use after children can count on, as a visual link between counting and the plus sign. Cards suit a small center.
Visual learners
Children who need to see the jumps benefit from a line they can touch.

Questions
Before you buy.
Does it include subtraction?
No. All the cards are addition, with hops going right.
What numbers does the line show?
Short number lines in the first grade range, so each hop stays easy to see.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PDF with 12 pages. No account needed.
Can I print it more than once?
Yes. One teacher or one household can print unlimited copies for their own students, this year and next.
Will it print in color?
The pages are designed to print in black and white, so they print clean on any home or school printer and do not eat a cartridge.
