Why get the bundle
- Sorting, cards and games help children see that odd and even is a pattern that runs through every number.
The problem
Is 51 odd or even? The 5 is odd, but...
Children learn odd and even with small numbers, then fail with larger ones because they look at the wrong digit.
Looking at the first digit
51 starts with 5, so some call it odd. That happens to be right, but 52 also starts with 5 and is even. Only the ones digit decides.
What even really means
Even numbers split into two equal groups with none left. Odd numbers have one left over.
The last digit rule
Only the ones digit tells. Children need to see that 12, 32 and 92 are all even.
Each item asks odd or even, with numbers from small to two-digit. Children learn to check the ones digit and to picture pairs.
What’s inside
