The problem
Party, letter, skirt, horse: r changes every vowel
When r follows a vowel, the vowel sound changes. Children who read a and r separately don't hear the new sound.
Reading vowel then r
A child reads /a/ /r/ for ar, and /o/ /r/ for or. The two letters make one sound together.
Er, ir and ur sound the same
Her, fir and fur all say /er/. Children can't tell the spelling from the sound.
Bossy r
The r 'bosses' the vowel. It's a memory trick that helps children remember the effect.
Words with ar, er, ir, or and ur are mixed. Children check the vowel pair and read it as one sound.
What’s inside
30 questions, one per slide.
Students type straight into the box — no printing, no cutting.

Who it’s for
Built for the kitchen table and the classroom.
Parents & homeschool
Make a bossy r puppet. When r comes after a vowel, the vowel can't say its name.
Teachers
Use after short vowels and silent e, as a review or a check.
RTI & intervention
Shows which r-controlled pair a child reads letter by letter.

Questions
Before you buy.
Why is r so bossy?
It changes the vowel sound, so a, e, i, o and u don't say their usual sounds.
Are er, ir and ur the same?
They sound the same, but are spelled differently. Children learn them by seeing them in words.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PowerPoint file you can open in Google Slides.
Can I share it with my class?
Yes — one teacher can use it with their own students, this year and next. Sharing the file with other teachers needs a separate license.
Do I need Google Slides?
No. The file is a PowerPoint (.pptx). It opens in PowerPoint, and in Google Slides once you upload it to Google Drive.
