The problem
Party, alarm, march: ar says /ar/, and the y says /ee/
Ar says /ar/, like a pirate. Children who read a and r separately say 'a-r-m' and lose the word.
Reading a, then r
A child says /a/ /r/ for ar. Ar makes one sound, as in car and star.
Party and the y
In 'party', the y says /ee/. Children who read ar well may stumble on the second syllable.
Ar and or
Both have an r. A quick look can turn 'march' into 'morch'.
Only ar words are included, such as party, alarm and march. Children hear ar in the middle and at the end of words.
What’s inside
30 questions, one per slide.
Students type straight into the box — no printing, no cutting.
AR R-Controlled Words

Title to answer key
A title slide first, the answer key last.
Google Slides & PowerPoint

Look inside
One question per slide, with a box to type the answer.

Teachers
Use as an r-controlled center, or after short a and silent e.
Early readers
Good for children ready to read longer words with ar.

Questions
Before you buy.
Does ar ever say something else?
Sometimes, like in 'warm'. This set keeps to the common /ar/, so children master it.
Is ar easy?
Many children find ar one of the easier r-controlled vowels, since it has a clear sound.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PowerPoint file you can open in Google Slides.
Can I share it with my class?
Yes — one teacher can use it with their own students, this year and next. Sharing the file with other teachers needs a separate license.
Do I need Google Slides?
No. The file is a PowerPoint (.pptx). It opens in PowerPoint, and in Google Slides once you upload it to Google Drive.
