Why get the bundle
- A bundle prepares children for the three-way sentence, fragment, run-on sort, because the base skill is practiced in many formats.
The problem
'The rabbit ate a carrot' and 'Ate a carrot'
A fragment can sound fine out loud. Second and third graders hear their own talk and don't notice what is missing.
Missing the who
'Ate a carrot' leaves out the naming part. It sounds natural in speech, so the gap is hard to hear.
Missing the doing part
'The big brown rabbit' names something but never says what happens.
Capital and period fool them
A group of words with a capital and a period looks like a sentence even if it isn't complete.
Cards ask whether a group of words is a sentence or a fragment. Children check: who or what, what happened, and does it make sense alone?

US Letter 8.5 × 11 · PDFOutcomes
Tells a complete sentence from a fragment
Checks for a who and a what-happened before calling a group of words a sentence.
- it has a naming part and a telling part
- it is missing a part, so it cannot stand alone

Who it’s for
Built for the kitchen table and the classroom.
Parents & homeschool
Say the words and ask, 'If I only heard this, would I know what happened?'
Teachers
A 2nd-3rd grade grammar station and a good lead-in for sentence writing.
Writers who write fragments
The same two-question check helps children revise their own sentences.

Questions
Before you buy.
Are there cut-and-paste sorts?
Yes. Sorts, task cards, clip cards, flash cards and an assessment are included.
Is it ok for grade 2?
Yes. The sentences are short and simple, like 'The bell rang loudly,' so reading does not get in the way.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PDF with 12 pages. No account needed.
Can I print it more than once?
Yes. One teacher or one household can print unlimited copies for their own students, this year and next.
Will it print in color?
The pages are designed to print in black and white, so they print clean on any home or school printer and do not eat a cartridge.
