Why get the bundle
- A solid-shape poster works well next to a flat-shape set. The bundle gives children both sets of names in one place.
The problem
A dice is a cube, not a square
Children name solid shapes by their flat faces. Everyday objects have their own geometry names: cube, sphere, cone, cylinder and pyramid.
Using flat names for solids
A box is called a square and a ball a circle. The solid has its own word, cube or sphere.
Cone or cylinder
A cone has one flat circle and a point. A cylinder has two flat circles, like a can. They are easily mixed.
Pyramid is not a triangle
A pyramid has a flat base and triangle faces that meet in a point. Children see the triangle and stop there.
A poster shows the common solid shapes by name, so children can look up the word when they need it. Real objects from home make the link.
