The problem
Prune, dune, amuse: u-e says two different sounds
Silent e with u is the trickiest. In 'prune' it's /oo/, and in 'amuse' it's /yoo/. Children have to try both.
Two long u sounds
Dune says /oo/ and cube says /yoo/. Children who learn one often use it for all.
Short u habit
Without the e, 'dun' is a real word. Beginners read 'dune' as 'dun' and miss the long u.
Longer words
In 'amuse', the u-e is in the second syllable. Children must find the pattern in a longer word.
Only u-e words are included, such as prune, amuse and dune. Children meet both long u sounds and learn to try each one.
What’s inside
23 questions, one per slide.
Students type straight into the box — no printing, no cutting.

Built for the kitchen table and the classroom.
Parents & homeschool
If a word doesn't sound right with /oo/, try /yoo/. It's a good habit for u-e words.
Teachers
Use as a silent e center, or last after a-e, i-e and o-e.
Early readers
Helps children who read the long u one way and get stuck on the other.

Questions
Before you buy.
Why does u have two sounds?
English uses /yoo/ in 'cube' and /oo/ in 'prune'. Children try both and pick the one that makes a real word.
Is this the hardest silent e?
Often, yes. It's best after a-e, i-e and o-e.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PowerPoint file you can open in Google Slides.
Can I share it with my class?
Yes — one teacher can use it with their own students, this year and next. Sharing the file with other teachers needs a separate license.
Do I need Google Slides?
No. The file is a PowerPoint (.pptx). It opens in PowerPoint, and in Google Slides once you upload it to Google Drive.
