Why get the bundle
- Tallies connect to skip counting and graphing. The bundle puts the practice sets together for those links.
The problem
Is that 22 or 25 tally marks?
Counting tally marks means seeing groups of five. Children who count line by line miss a slash or count one twice.
Miscounting the extras
Four bundles and two lines is 22. A child who skips a bundle says 17.
Counting one at a time
Counting 25 lines by ones is slow and error-prone. Counting fives is faster and surer.
Drawing the marks
When writing tallies, children put the slash on the wrong line or start a new bundle too soon.
Each item gives a number and children match it to tally marks, counting fives and ones. Skip counting by fives makes it quick.
