The problem
It's 7:30, so why does the short hand point past 7?
At half past the hour, the short hand sits halfway between two numbers. Children read it as the next hour.
Reading the hour as the next number
At 7:30 the short hand is between 7 and 8. A child sees it near 8 and writes 8:30.
The long hand on 6
The long hand on 6 means 30 minutes. Children often read it as 6.
Half past, not half to
7:30 is half past seven. The word past says the seven has already come.
Each card shows a time on the half hour. Children find the short hand, say the hour it has passed, check the long hand on 6 and write the time.
