Broom, soon, noon: oo says two sounds, and these are the long ones
Oo says /oo/ as in moon and a shorter sound as in book. Children need to try both when reading.
Two sounds, one spelling
Oo in 'broom' is long, and in 'book' it's short. Children read one and apply it to the other.
Reading o, then o
A child says /o/ /o/. Oo is one sound, not two.
Rhymes with moon
Soon, noon and moon rhyme. Children who learn them as a set read faster.
