The problem
-ug, -un, -ut: short u words that rhyme and look alike
Short u families are easy to say, but mixing -ug, -un and -ut is common. Children also swap u with o.
u, o and n
Bug and bog, bun and ban. Children flip u and n, and mix u with o.
Same ends, new starts
Bug, dug and hug share -ug, but b, d and h can look alike. Children may confuse the starting letters.
Guessing the end
Children say 'bun' for bus if they only look at the first two letters.
Only short u words are included, grouped by ending. Children keep the vowel steady and learn to look at the last letter.
What’s inside
30 questions, one per slide.
Students type straight into the box — no printing, no cutting.

Early readers
Fits children who read the first letter and guess the rest of the word.

Questions
Before you buy.
Does my child need to know all the families?
They're separate. Start with the one that appears in your child's reading, like -ug, and add more.
Why include -ut words?
Words like but, cut and gut are common in early reading, so children benefit from reading them as a set.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PowerPoint file you can open in Google Slides.
Can I share it with my class?
Yes — one teacher can use it with their own students, this year and next. Sharing the file with other teachers needs a separate license.
Do I need Google Slides?
No. The file is a PowerPoint (.pptx). It opens in PowerPoint, and in Google Slides once you upload it to Google Drive.
