Why choose this over a free worksheet
- Compares g and j, a real source of confusion
- Keeps the hard g, so there's no soft-g trap
- Short a only, so the vowel is steady
Printing, license and file formats
- One PDF, US Letter 8.5 × 11 in. On A4 choose “fit to page”
- One teacher or one household. Print unlimited copies for your own students, this year and next
- Sharing the file itself needs a separate license
- Digital download — nothing ships
How do I get the files?

Why get the bundle
- -ag is easiest when it appears often. The bundle gives several formats, so the family repeats without seeming the same.
The problem
Bag, gag, jag: g sounds hard, then j sounds like a different word
-ag has a clear short a plus a hard g. Children often slip on the g, or on the starting letters g and j, which look alike.
g and j
Both letters have a hook or tail below the line. Children can read 'jag' as 'gag' or the reverse.
Bag or bad?
The ending g and d look and sound different, but children may mix bag and bad when reading quickly.
Hard g only
In -ag, g says /g/, never /j/. Children who have learned soft g may be unsure.
The page uses -ag words only, such as bag, gag and jag. Children hold the ending constant and learn to look at the first letter and the final g.

Questions
Before you buy.
What if my child says 'bad' for 'bag'?
They may be dropping the last sound. Slow the word down, tap each sound, and ask them to check the end.
Are all the words common?
Many are, like bag and tag. A few, like jag, are less familiar, so reading them builds decoding, not memory.
How do I get the file?
The download link appears right after checkout and lands in your inbox at the same time. One PDF with 12 pages. No account needed.
Can I print it more than once?
Yes. One teacher or one household can print unlimited copies for their own students, this year and next.
Will it print in color?
The pages are designed to print in black and white, so they print clean on any home or school printer and do not eat a cartridge.
What if it isn’t right for us?
