The problem
Dip, hip, lip: the l that looks like an I
-ip has a quick puffed p and starting letters that can look alike. Lip is where lowercase l is often mistaken for capital I or the number 1.
l, I and 1
In some fonts, lowercase l looks like capital I. 'Lip' can look like 'Iip', which throws beginners.
p and b
Dip and dib, lip and lib. Final p is a puff and children sometimes read it as b.
Hip, hop
One vowel change gives a new word. Beginners who skip the vowel read the wrong word.
Only -ip words are included, like dip, hip and lip. Children read the ending as one chunk and notice the first letter and vowel.
