The problem
Cot, dot, got: reading 'got' and not 'goat'
-ot is a quick family, but children can mix it with vowel teams. 'Got' and 'goat' look alike to beginners.
Got vs. goat
Adding a vowel changes the sound. Children who have seen 'oa' may read 'got' as 'goat'.
Cot, cat, cut
One vowel change and the word is different. Skipping the vowel gives the wrong word.
Quick t
The final /t/ is a tap. Children may leave it off or say it as /d/ when speaking fast.
Only -ot words are included, like cot, dot and got. Children see one vowel and one ending over and over, so they read each word letter by letter.
