The problem
Mia has 4 pencils and gets 2 more
A word problem is a small story. First graders can add 4 + 2 yet do not know that 'gets more' means to add.
Not seeing the story
A child sees 4 and 2 and stops. Picturing Mia with four pencils, then two more arriving makes the plan clear.
Writing one of the numbers
With two numbers in the story, children sometimes copy one of them. The question asks how many now.
Counting from one
Counting 1 to 13 for 10 + 3 is slow. Starting at the larger number and counting on is quicker.
Each problem is a short, friendly story with two numbers and a 'how many now' question. Children draw or use counters, write the number sentence and answer.
What’s inside
30 questions, one per slide.
Students type straight into the box — no printing, no cutting.
