The problem

A first sentence: capital, words in order, and a mark at the end

A K-1 writer has to remember three things at once: start big, say something whole, and stop with a mark. Each is easy alone and hard together.

Lowercase starts, no end marks

'the dog ran to the park' has the right words but neither a capital nor a period.

Words in the wrong order

Given 'barked / dog / The,' children can't yet see the sentence inside. Word order is invisible in speech.

Sequencing and the naming part

Retelling what happens first and finding who a sentence is about are habits that make writing clear.

The collection covers capital sentence starts, end punctuation, building sentences from short scrambled words, adding the naming part and what happens first.

What’s inside

249 pages across 22 resources.

A K-1 collection builds capital, order, punctuation and sequence together, so a child's first sentence is correct.
